Chad Johnson released after 7 days in jail

Chad Johnson is out of jail just seven days into his 30-day jail sentence for a poorly timed butt slap. Now he can begin his NFL comeback in earnest.

Chad Johnson will be released from jail just seven days after being sentenced to 30 days by a judge after slapping his attorney on the butt. Johnson apologized to the judge, who took Johnson’s bit of excessive celebration as a sign that he wasn’t taking the legal process seriously. Johnson had just accepted a plea deal that would have included zero jail time when he executed the offending slap.

Johnson's legal troubles stem from a domestic violence incident during which he head-butted his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada. The incident led to Johnson tumbling from the Miami Dolphins' roster and out of the NFL last summer.

Johnson is currently trying to mount a comeback to the NFL, though his odds are long at this point. When Johnson last saw the field, he was being seldomly used by the New England Patriots. He managed just 15 receptions for 276 yards in 15 games played during the 2011 season.

Fortunately, if there is a team that is willing to give him a chance, Johnson will be available for a tryout immediately.
