Adrian Peterson ranked first in NFL 100

Players around the NFL have voted Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson as the league’s best player.

The NFL's MVP award, almost breaking the league's single-season rushing record -- 2012 was a good year for Adrian Peterson. This was topped off Thursday night as his peers voted him the league's No. 1 overall player on the NFL Network's 'Top 100' series.

Peterson was Minnesota’s offense in 2012. Despite being the team’s primary offensive threat, teams could not stop him, even as defenses knew the ball would be in his hands. Carrying the ball 348 times, Peterson averaged a stunning 6.0 yards per carry en route to 2,097 yards.

Running backs are measured by their 100-yard games. Peterson had 11 such games last season, including seven games topping 150 yards, and two over 200 yards. It wasn't just the yards he picked up, but the rushing economy. An example of this came against a stout Seattle Seahawks defense, where he finished with 182 yards on just 17 carries.

It’s hard to argue that the league’s MVP didn’t deserve the No. 1 spot, and it remains to be seen if Peterson can come close to his 2012 accolades.
