Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker saw his production explode when he joined the New England Patriots, and he joined the Broncos this offseason already known as one of the best slot receivers to play the game. On Friday, Peyton Manning said that the Broncos plan to use Welker the same way the Patriots used him, keeping him comfortable with the same routes he's been running.
Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is dealing with a federal investigation into the company Pilot Flying J, for which he serves as the CEO. On Friday, the news came out that Haslam would be selling a minor league baseball team he owns, the Tennessee Smokies. Haslam has said that the investigation wouldn't lead to him having to sell the Browns, but this is potentially troubling news regardless.
Over at Dawgs By Nature, they’re not convinced by Haslam’s statement:
When asked if Browns fans should worry, Haslam said we should have, “absolutely zero to worry about.” Well, maybe in regards to the sale of this minor-league team, but we still could have a whole heck of a lot to worry about when it comes to the trouble that Pilot Flying J is in. Fans are speculated that the minor-league sale is a quick way for Haslam to raise some cash while the FBI investigation is going on.
On Friday, Ernest Wallace, who is suspected to have been an accessory to the murder of Odin Lloyd, was arrested in Florida. Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is the primary suspect in the case, having been charged with murder on Wednesday. Hernandez has been denied bail. It is unclear how Wallace fits into the puzzle, however.
If you bought an Aaron Hernandez jersey before the tight end was released by the team and charged for murder, the Patriots are offering a free exchange on July 6 and 7, the team announced on Friday. The team has already stopped selling the jerseys, but this is good news if you went ahead and bought one prior to this controversy, given that it seems unlikely Hernandez makes it back with the Patriots.
