DeSean Jackson reportedly interested in Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

DeSean Jackson could sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation despite ongoing controversy over how the sports agency recruited Jets quarterback Geno Smith.

DeSean Jackson is considering signing with Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports after firing agent Drew Rosenhaus last week, according to reports. Roc Nation is gradually building its sports clientele, with New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith being their most notable NFL signee.

Jackson signed a five-year deal worth $51 million in 2012 after staging a rather contentious holdout in 2011. His first season under the contract was underwhelming, however. Last year, Jackson recorded career lows in receptions (45), receiving yards (700), and touchdowns (two).

If Jackson continues to underperform, his new representation could be very busy in the coming years. As SB Nation's Eagles blog Bleeding Green Nation points out, Jackson has escalators in his contract beginning next season that will stretch the team's salary cap. Negotiations may then begin again over how to restructure the wideout's contract.

Roc Nation in the midst of controversy at the moment. The NFL Players Association is investigating the company to determine whether Jay-Z is in violation of the NFLPA’s “runner rule,” which prohibits non-NFLPA-certified representatives from recruiting players to sign with a sports agency.
