Joe Lefeged arrest: Colts release team statement
The Colts have responded to the arrest of safety Joe Lefeged.
We are aware of the reports regarding Joe Lefeged in Washington, D.C. At this time, we will have no further comment on the pending matter until we gain more information.
Lefeged was arrested in Washington D.C. as a passenger in a car that fled police during a traffic stop. When the car was stopped after a chase, a handgun was found inside the vehicle. Lefeged and another man, Timothy Wilson, were slapped with several charges, including carrying a firearm without license, unregistered firearm, unregistered ammunition, presence of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of an open container of alcohol.
The driver of the vehicle fled on foot, and police are still trying to apprehend him.
Lefeged was primarily a contributor on special teams last season, though he did start four games. He recorded 31 tackles in his second season in the NFL, after recording 34 tackles and two interceptions as a rookie out of Rutgers in 2011. The Colts signed Lefeged as an undrafted free agent.
