The New York Jets have invited free agent wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker to try out with the team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Tight end Kellen Winslow was invited to Tuesday's minicamp, as previously reported, though the exact day that Sims-Walker would attend is unknown. For now, Tuesday seems like a safe bet.

The New York Jets have invited Mike Sims-Walker to a tryout at team minicamp along with veteran tight end Kellen Winslow.

Sims-Walker last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, where he was eventually placed on injured reserve before being released later on. That year, he played in just six games, four of which were for the St. Louis Rams. In all, he caught 12 passes for 150 yards and no touchdowns.
His most productive season came in 2009. As a second-year player with the Jaguars he caught 63 passes for 869 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had seven touchdowns in 2010. When healthy, Sims-Walker is a particularly effective red zone threat and seems to still have a lot to offer, but he’ll need to show that he can stay healthy.
Like Winslow, it seems Sims-Walker is coming to New York solely on a tryout basis and may not be offered a contract if he doesn’t perform well during the team minicamp. But the Jets don’t have much in the way of wide receivers right now, so Winslow should be given a fair shot.
Most of New York's top guys are dealing with injuries and for a team that is trying to get more out of its quarterback position, that's bad news. Santonio Holmes could miss a portion of training camp and Stephen Hill sat out practice with a knee injury recently. Those injuries play to Sims-Walker's favor if he is, in fact, healthy.
