Trent Richardson injury: Browns RB expected to start running in 2 weeks

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson should be running in two weeks and if there are no setbacks, will be back from injury in time for training camp in July.

Eric P. Mull-US PRESSWIRE

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson is expected to start running in two weeks, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Richardson is dealing with a leg injury that many have deemed "not serious."

If Richardson is running in two weeks and the Browns are taking things slow with his injury to be extra cautious, Richardson should be ready in advance of the team’s training camp opening on July 25. Provided there are no setbacks, there’s not much cause for concern for Richardson to be prepared for the regular season.

While he’s dealt with injuries to a worrying extent thus far in his NFL career, Richardson still played in 15 games as a rookie after being drafted in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. As the primary ball-carrier for the Browns, Richardson carried the ball 267 times last year, putting up 950 yards and 11 touchdowns, with a per-carry average of 3.6 yards.

The goal going forward will be to get that average up, which will likely only be achieved when the Browns show opposing defenses that they can actually pass the football. As it stands, Brandon Weeden doesn't present much threat to light up the competition, and the box was frequently stacked against Richardson in his rookie campaign.
