Former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Ben Utecht won his grievance against the team, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. Utecht was released in November of 2009 after being placed on injured reserve due to a concussion, and claimed that he wasn't healthy when released.

Ben Utecht settled his grievance against the Cincinnati Bengals and will receive roughly $925,000.

The Bengals disagreed, and withheld a portion of his salary for that season. The arbitrator in the case sided with Utecht, saying that he “had not been sufficiently tested, both in his aerobic and strength reconditioning program, nor had he been tested, both in sport specific activities which would be a more accurate means of determining whether the damage caused by the concussion had ‘cleared.’”
Utecht says that he’s suffering from memory loss since sustaining the concussion in training camp. The concussion was broadcast on HBO’s Hard Knocks program. He was in the second year of a three-year contract worth $9 million. As per this settlement, he’ll receive roughly $925,000, according to his agent, Christopher Murray.
