NFL news: DeMarcus Ware healthy, Chris Cooley retires

Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker/defensive end DeMarcus Ware is expected to be 100 percent for the team's training camp later in July. Ware had surgery on his shoulder in January and missed all of the team's OTAs and minicamps. Ware said he's ready to go and that he'd be playing right now if there was a game, so that's a good sign for Cowboys fans.

Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday. Cooley spent his entire career in Washington and was a fan-favorite from the start. His production slowed in recent seasons, and rather than play elsewhere, he elected to call it quits and join the Redskins' radio broadcast as an analyst.

Because the Green Bay Packers are not a privately owned team, their financial records are publicly disclosed. The Packers saw a profit increase of 26 percent over their last financial cycle. The actual number is a profit of $54.3 million, helped along by a $19.6 million decrease in player costs. Many expect that to change heading into the next cycle, however, as extensions for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and linebacker Clay Matthews will hit the books.

The Oakland Raiders have been in dire need of a replacement for the Coliseum for years, and it doesn't look like that need will be filled any time soon. The Raiders want to open up a new 50,000-seat stadium, but after their contribution and a loan from the NFL, they would still need a good chunk of public money that most feel isn't going to happen in the Bay Area at this point.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb is one of the best slot receivers out there, but he doesn't like that label and wants to be regarded as a more complete receiver. He said he doesn't want to work on "just being a slot receiver," and that he wants to be "a receiver, period." One possibility is that the Packers could pull Cobb off special teams and let him focus 100 percent on being a receiver, though nothing is set in stone at this point.
