Eric Wright could still play for San Francisco 49ers

It’s not impossible for the corner to still become a part of the 49ers family.

Last week, the San Francisco 49ers traded for then-Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright. Since, Wright failed his physical, voiding the trade before the Buccaneers waived Wright, making him a free agent.

San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke says it’s not impossible that Wright could become a 49er, just not at the current time. Baalke says he felt good about the acquisition at the time, but has ultimately moved on from everything, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“The door is never closed on players,” Baalke said. “With respect to Eric, there’s always a possibility that he becomes a Niner at some point. Just not now. … All the work we did and the discussion that we had with Eric when he came in here was very positive. There were some concerns. We addressed the concerns, but once again he’s not with us. We’d rather talk about the guys that are here.”

Earlier in July, Wright was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the second time he has been put into cuffs for a drunken driving incident. The first time, charges were dropped.

Wright signed a five-year contract with Tampa Bay during the offseason of 2012, only to be a complete bust after showing flashes with the Detroit Lions. Wright only played in 10 games while dealing with an Achilles injury last year, totaling 37 tackles and an interception.
