Von Miller suspension: Appeal decision expected before NFL regular season

The Broncos star linebacker likely to have appeal heard in August.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller is expected to have the appeal of his four-game suspension heard sometime in mid-August, according to Adam Schefter. Schefter also notes a resolution is expected before the start of the NFL regular season.

Miller was suspended for an unspecified violation of NFL policy. It has since been reported that Miller failed a drug test during his rookie campaign of 2011, testing positive for marijuana and amphetamines. Miller defended himself, insisting that he had done nothing wrong after news of the suspension and appeal was leaked to the media.

It’s unknown if these reports are related to Miller’s suspension.

If Miller does miss the first four games of the season, Denver will have to play against the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles without him. Miller is one of the NFL's elite pass rushers, having amassed 18.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in 2012 alone.

The Broncos are already without their other pass-rush specialist from last year in Elvis Dumervil, who left via free agency to join the Ravens after a fax machine snafu this offseason.
