The Arizona Cardinals are closing in on a deal for free agent offensive tackle Eric Winston, according to a report. Winston and the Cardinals were apparently close to a deal that could be done "within 24 hours" as of late Wednesday night, so if that's any indication, things could be happening soon. Winston would immediately come in and push Levi Brown and Bobby Massie for starting roles to help protect new quarterback Carson Palmer.

The Cardinals also have an offer on the table for free agent defensive end/outside linebacker John Abraham. The Cardinals run a 3-4 defense, so Abraham will have to play that position for the first time, and at 35 years old, that's a tall order. That's supposing Abraham is even interested in signing, given his high asking price in recent years.
The Detroit Lions signed wide receiver Chaz Schilens on Wednesday. Nate Burleson is coming off a broken leg and Ryan Broyles has a big injury history, so Schilens is being brought in mostly for insurance, though he'll get an opportunity to compete in training camp, it seems. Detroit is obviously set with Calvin Johnson but they've been looking for someone to step up opposite him for some time now.
It seems as though the Chicago Bears will let quarterback Jay Cutler play out the final year of his contract. Bears general manager Phil Emery said there will be no contract extensions this summer. It's obvious that the Bears want to see how Cutler works with new head coach Marc Trestman. That said, if Cutler is putting up solid numbers, getting an extension done mid-season is not out of the question.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been cleared to participate in training camp. Marshall was held out of organized team activities earlier in the offseason while recovering from offseason hip surgery. Marshall is expected to be Jay Cutler's top target in Marc Trestman's offense this season.
Washington Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker will be undergoing surgery to help repair the torn quadriceps tendon he suffered in Week 2 of the 2012 season. This will be Carriker's third surgery since the injury, and it's likely he hits the physically unable to perform list soon. It's unclear how long he will be out due to this surgery, but if he's on the PUP list when the season begins, he won't be able to return until after Week 6.
