Dennis Pitta injury: Ravens TE expected to make full recovery

Despite tough injury, Pitta should be back on the field down the road at 100 percent.

Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta suffered a brutal injury early in training camp, dislocating and fracturing his hip. Not surprisingly, Pitta required surgery and will miss the entire 2013 season, but he is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Baltimore Sun.

While there is a long road ahead of Pitta in terms of rehabilitation, there is a very good chance of him being ready in time for 2014. Per the Sun:

“With a professional athlete like Dennis, his rehabilitation protocol should allow for him to return to full capability by next season,” said Dr. Derek Ochiai, an orthopedic hip surgeon based in Arlington, Va. “I would expect him to be ready by the middle of [next] summer. What they let him do as far as offseason stuff and training camp next year is obviously far ahead of him and up to the Ravens and Dennis. But with a lot of hard work and patience, he should be back.”

Pitta, who made the NFL Network Top 100 list this year for the first time, hurt the hip when trying to catch a Joe Flacco pass in practice. The 28-year-old fell awkwardly, breaking off a small part of his bone.

Last year, the former BYU Cougars star caught 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season before hauling in three more touchdowns in the playoffs.
