Chicago Bears release Turk McBride

The Bears have moved on from McBride after he was lost for the season.

Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE

Defensive end Turk McBride was lost for the season in training camp with a torn Achilles tendon, and now the Chicago Bears have decided to release him, per the team's official twitter.

McBride’s spot on the roster has been taken by fellow defensive end Josh Williams.

It was the hope of general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman that McBride could become a contributor on the defense after spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints in his first six years.

A former second-round draft pick of the Chiefs in 2007 out of the University of Tennessee, McBride hasn’t made quite the expected impact. His best season came in 2008, ironically while only playing in nine games, amassing 41 tackles and two fumbles recoveries. In 2010, McBride had five sacks for Detroit and three forced fumbles.
