NFL news roundup: Ahmad Brooks not charged, Cowboys trying to extend Sean Lee

Ahmad Brooks has not actually been charged with assault, and the Dallas Cowboys are working on extending middle linebacker Sean Lee. Read on for more you may have missed on Wednesday.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The arrest warrant out for San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks was filed in error and has been pulled, as reported on Wednesday. It was originally drawn up for the arrest of Brooks on assault charges, but the investigation was intended to continue before the warrant was supposed to be filed. That said, it could still be made official at some point, so Brooks isn't out of hot water just yet.

Niners Nation took a look at what Brooks would be dealing with if he is actually charged:

The sentence for felony assault ranges from a fine all the way up to four years in prison. If it was reduced to a misdemeanor assault, he would face a fine of up to $1,000 and/or up to six months in the county jail. If it was reduced to misdemeanor battery, he would face up to a $2,000 fine and/or up to six months in the county jail.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Wednesday:

More and more on Hernandez

Police have found more evidence against former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Massachusetts State Police recovered several items from an apartment leased by Hernandez, according to reports. That included plenty of ammunition, car rental agreements and clothing that may connect him further to the murder of Odin Lloyd.

In addition, Hernandez is reportedly being investigated in connection to a 2007 shooting that took place in Florida, when Hernandez was a freshman at the University of Florida. No matter how you look at it, this is just getting ridiculous.

Cowboys working on Lee extension

The Dallas Cowboys are trying to lock up middle linebacker Sean Lee before the start of the regular season. Lee has been one of the top linebackers in the league for the past couple years, and though the Cowboys don't have much cap room to work with at this point, Lee is a huge part of their defense. The Cowboys have recently fallen short of expectations, and if Lee were to hit free agency, another team would surely snap him up.

Dolphins, Soliai not talking extension

Paul Soliai has been a strong player for the Miami Dolphins, but the team isn't yet talking to him about an extension. While the defensive tackle has been an important anchor to the Miami run defense, the team doesn't have enough money to pay multiple linemen, and Randy Starks is playing on the franchise tag. If Soliai outplays Starks next year, he could certainly earn an extension, but its unlikely anything will happen prior to the regular season.
