Redskins sign Nick Barnett to 1-year deal, according to report

The veteran linebacker has found a home as a reserve linebacker with the Washington Redskins.

USA TODAY Sports

After working out for the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, veteran linebacker Nick Barnett will be staying on at the team's camp in Richmond, Va. after the two sides agreed to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport on Wednesday night. The Redskins announced the signing but not the contract length, on Thursday morning.

Despite being very productive over the past two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, the 32-year-old Barnett received little attention in the free agency market, presumably due to an undisclosed injury he has been rehabbing. He led the Bills in tackles with 112 in 2012, adding two sacks and three forced fumbles. Despite not having missed a single game during his two year stint, the team released him this offseason after a failed physical.

The Redskins have been low on linebacker depth after losing top reserve Keenan Robinson for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. Barnett will help fill the void behind starters London Fletcher and Perry Riley.

Barnett spent his first eight years in the league with the Green Bay Packers, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2007. He has racked up over 1,000 combined tackles and 20 sacks during his ten-year NFL career.
