49ers training camp: San Francisco searching for WR help

With most of their receiving corps sidelined with injuries, the 49ers are looking into Lavelle Hawkins, Laurent Robinson and Austin Collie to help fill the ranks.

With their receiving corps thinned by injuries, the San Francisco 49ers are searching high and low for players to fill in the ranks. That search now includes Lavelle Hawkins, Laurent Robinson and Austin Collie, according to CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco.

Hawkins, a five-year NFL veteran most recently on the roster of the New England Patriots, is expected to work out for the 49ers at some point this week. After signing with the Patriots in May, he was released by the team on Wednesday. Hawkins spent the first four years of his career with the Tennessee Titans, who drafted him out of Cal in the fourth round of the 2008 draft.

The 49ers reportedly worked out Collie and Robinson on Thursday. Robinson signed a five-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, but was limited to just seven games last season with concussion issues and was cut by the team this offseason. Though he caught just 24 passes for 252 yards with the Jags, he tallied 858 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2011 with the Dallas Cowboys.

Collie has been on the 49ers radar for a while now, having worked out with the team once before in June. He has also battled concussions during his NFL career, having suffered three since 2010. He missed most of 2012, his last year with the Indianapolis Colts, with a torn patella tendon.

The 49ers have had bad luck with receivers throughout the offseason. Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham are currently on the physically unable to perform list with Achilles and knee issues, respectively, while Kyle Williams, A.J. Jenkins and Kassim Osgood are all banged up with hamstring injuries.
