Britton Colquitt contract: Broncos reportedly want to extend punter’s deal

The Broncos are interested in keeping one of the league’s best punters in Denver for an extended period.

It may not be the sexiest move the Denver Broncos make this year, but the team is reportedly looking long and hard at the prospect of extending the contract of punter Britton Colquitt, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis.

Colquitt is currently set to make $1.323 million this season, but Broncos brass is hoping to ensure one of the NFL’s top punters stays in Denver past 2013.

Go ahead and get your punter jokes out of the way, then consider this: Colquitt ranked second in the league in 2012 with a 42.1-yard net average, and pulled into second place with a 6.2-yard return average. He also dropped 27 punts inside an opponent’s 20-yard line and recorded only four touchbacks.

Colquitt won't exactly be breaking the bank as far as NFL salaries go, but he should expect a nice pay day for a punter. His brother, Dustin, recently signed a five-year, $18.75 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
