Trent Richardson injury: Browns hold RB out of practice

Richardson was forced to sit out of Friday’s practice with a slight injury to his leg.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson was held out of training camp practice on Friday due to a shin injury, according to Pro Football Talk.

Richardson and the team believe the setback is minor at worst, saying it’s really a day-to-day thing. Richardson spent much of last season fighting through injuries, most notably a broken rib. If the Browns can keep him at or close to 100 percent, it’s a no-brainer. Per the article:

“It looks like yesterday he got kicked so we decided to hold him out,” Chudzinski said of Richardson, in quotes distributed by the team. “He should be OK. We feel good about it. We are not worried about it. It is part of the plan we have for him. We will continue to keep him healthy and rested and get him ready for the season.”

Cleveland’s first-round pick in 2012, Richardson is the focal point of the offense. Last year, the Alabama Crimson Tide star racked up 950 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns including three games of over 100 yards. Richardson also added 51 catches out of he backfield for 367 yards.

The Browns are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since Kelly Holcomb and Tim Couch were running the show back in 2002. While most pundits acknowledge it won't be easy to break the streak this season, Richardson would certainly have to enjoy a huge year for it to happen.
