Atlanta Falcons right tackle Mike Johnson was carted off the field during practice Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The left leg injury occurred on the first play of 9-on-7 inside run drills, and Johnson reportedly left the Falcons' training facility in an ambulance.

Falcons right tackle Mike Johnson was carted off the field Tuesday with what appears to be a serious leg injury.

There is no word yet on how long Johnson may be forced to sit, though the injury appears to be serious. Johnson is currently penciled in as the Falcons' starter at right tackle after the team let go of Tyson Clabo, now with the Miami Dolphins, during the offseason. Lamar Holmes, a third-round draft pick out of Southern Miss in the 2012 NFL Draft, is No. 2 at right tackle on the Falcons' depth chart.

Those running at the skill positions were no surprise, outside of Drew Davis who was filling in for a limited (not "injured") Julio Jones. The first-team offensive line, however, was interesting in that Mike Johnson took all of the reps at right tackle. Lamar Holmes looked solid, as well, but I think for now this is Johnson's gig to lose.
While it is good news for the Falcons that Holmes appears to be a capable replacement, a potential long absence for Johnson would hamper the offense, not to mention set back the career of a player perhaps on track for a breakout season. Johnson is entering his fourth year in the NFL.
