Jared Allen injury: Vikings DE leaves practice after rolling ankle

Jared Allen left practice Tuesday after rolling his ankle. Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated that the defensive end could be headed for an MRI.

Jared Allen was forced to leave Minnesota Vikings practice Tuesday after rolling his ankle, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Allen had to spend the last half hour of practice getting his ankle taped after going down during 2-minute drills. Head coach Leslie Frazier said after practice that the defensive end will undergo further examination to determine whether he needs an MRI.

Allen was not expected to participate in the Vikings' preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Friday, but Tuesday's injury makes his absence much more likely. According to the Star Tribune, Allen will also likely miss Wednesday's practice, which will be the team's last before Friday's game.

Whether Allen misses significantly more practice time remains to be seen. If history is any indication, he should eventually find a way to tough out any pain. Through nine seasons in the NFL, Allen has missed a total of three games and has played all 16 games of every regular season since joining the Vikings in 2008.
