Dallas Cowboys sign OL Brandon Moore

The Cowboys added depth and experience by acquiring Moore via free agency.

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday with guard Brandon Moore, according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo. Terms of the contract were not made available.

Moore has been a solid performer over his 10-year career with the New York Jets, starting every game over the past nine seasons. The 33-year-old made his only Pro Bowl in 2011.

In Dallas, Moore comes in as an insurance policy for the interior of the offensive line while providing solid competition. The Cowboys were reportedly also interested in signing ex-All Pro guard Brian Waters, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots, but nothing materialized.

Dallas is very thin at the guard spot, with Nate Livings coming off a second knee surgery in the last six months and is slated to miss 2-4 weeks while recovering. Mackenzy Bernadeau has also had health issues, only recently returning from a hamstring ailment.

Over at SB Nation’s Blogging The Boys, KD Drummond talks about why Moore could be a valuable piece for Dallas:

Moore is 33 years old and is coming off a very good season in his own right. He only allowed 2 sacks and 20 total pressures per PFF, earning a cumulative game grade of +21.8. Moore has spent his entire 10 year career in New York, including working under Cowboys OC Bill Callahan from 2008-2011.

Drummond also points out the team wants to keep its first-round pick at his natural position:

From my point of view, it appears that Dallas is willing to do anything to ensure that Travis Frederick stays at center, now and forever. Waters and Frederick appear to be options along those lines.

The Cowboys next preseason game is on Aug. 9 against the Oakland Raiders.
