Bills safety Mana Silva leaves training camp for personal reasons

Buffalo will be without their young safety who left camp for non-football reasons and may not return.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

On Monday, the Buffalo Bills were surprised to realize safety Mana Silva left training camp without permission for personal reasons. The following day, Buffalo placed Silva on the exempt-left squad list, according to the Associated Press.

Josh Arnold, Silva's agent, says his client left the team to re-examine his life. Silva joined the Bills last October after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, playing in seven games. He previously played five contests for the Cowboys over two seasons after his college days at Hawaii.

Over at SB Nation’s Buffalo Rumblings, Brian Galliford weighs in on what the Bills are losing with Silva gone:

Though he didn't do much for the defense (playing just two snaps), he was one of just six Bills to log over 100 special teams snaps in those seven weeks.

Silva had been running with the second-team defense throughout camp. His departure will elevate players like rookie Jonathan Meeks and Dominique Ellis on the depth chart.

It has been an interesting camp for Buffalo thus far, with Kevin Kolb and E.J. Manuel fighting it out for the starting quarterback spot while first-year head coach Doug Marrone gets acclimated. Of course, Kolb suffered a ridiculous injury, slipping on his way to practice and tweaking his knee.

Update: The Bills have signed former Appalachian State safety Mark LeGree.
