The Seattle Seahawks began their 2013 preseason campaign with a win on Thursday, rolling the San Diego Chargers, 31-10. While it is preseason and all, there are certainly some significant takeaways from the Seahawks' win.
Seahawks vs. Chargers: Tarvaris Jackson looks solid in preseason win
The veteran quarterback was impressive on Thursday night, throwing for a pair of scores and prompting Seahawks fans to think the backup quarterback competition may be a moot point.

For one, the battle for the No. 2 position between Tarvaris Jackson and Brady Quinn is getting good. Quinn was solid, going 6-for-11 for 59 yards and a touchdown, but was showed up by a brilliant performance from Jackson. The former Minnesota Vikings starter threw for 128 yards and two scores, possibly pushing himself securely behind starter Russell Wilson on the quarterback depth chart.
Jacson Bevens over at Field Gulls was plenty impressed by Jackson, and writes the competition between him and Quinn may be over:
This was a real boring game until Tarvaris Jackson came in. Jackson (8/9, 128 yards, 2 TDs, 158.3 rating), looked comfortable, masterful even. I know Brady Quinn got the second-team reps and I know Brady Quinn is beautiful and I know Brady Quinn threw a touchdown pass and I know Brady Quinn won’t return my texts but there’s no question in my mind that if Russell Wilson gets hurt this season, T-Jack is gonna be the first guy Pete Carroll turns to.
Rookie running back Christine Michael's strong performance was enough to get Bevens discussing the possibility of there being a new Beast Mode in Seattle:
Christine Michael has the potential/ability to be better than Marshawn Lynch. I'm not saying that as some sort of overreaction to his 89 yards (on 16 carries, 5.6 YPC) in an exhibition game, I'm saying that because we're talking about one of the best athletes the NFL combine has ever seen, with abilities to make cuts at sub-realistic angles, and who didn't go down on initial contact the way you'd imagine a 22 year old in the NFL would. We're talking about a halfback with a grown man's game.
