The New England Patriots started off well and rode their running game to a 31-22 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. Stevan Ridley managed 92 yards off of eight carries with one touchdown and a long of 62 yards, while his backup, LeGarrette Blount, managed to rush for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns off of 11 carries.

Tom Brady made his part look easy, as per usual in the preseason. He completed 7 of 8 passes for 65 yards and capped off his second and final drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to running back Shane Vereen to give the Patriots a 14-7 edge near the end of the first quarter.
The quarterback battle between Michael Vick and Nick Foles didn't get much clarity on the day. Vick completed 4 of 5 passes for 94 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown pass to receiver DeSean Jackson. Foles completed 5 of 6 passes for 43 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions.
Rookie quarterback Matt Barkley, a dark horse candidate in the quarterback battle, completed 11 of 22 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles were favored by a field goal by most books, and they obviously did not cover.
