New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith went down with an injury Friday against the Detroit Lions. Smith rolled his ankle to the inside after escaping pressure early in the third quarter and immediately limped to the sidelines, where he was examined by team trainers.
Geno Smith injury: Jets rookie hurts ankle in preseason
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith injured his ankle in preseason action against the Detroit Lions on Friday.

There's no word on what is ailing Smith just yet, but he's got his cleats off and given that it's the first preseason game, it's very unlikely he returns to action. Greg McElroy came in to relieve him and will likely take the lion's share of the remaining snaps in the second half.
Smith was 6-for-7 for 47 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions when he went down with the injury. Its a decent stat line, but the Jets did go 3-and-out twice with him at the helm. He's currently locked in a battle with Mark Sanchez for the starting job. Sanchez started the game and completed 10 of 13 passes for 125 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
