Justin Blackmon, Nolan Carroll involved in sideline exchange

Blackmon wasn’t playing Friday night but managed to make headlines anyway.

USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon didn't play on Friday against the Miami Dolphins, but he was nonetheless involved in an altercation with an opposing player. Blackmon was escorted from the field following a heated argument with Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll in the second quarter, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.

Blackmon was on the sideline in street clothes when he got into it with Carroll, and Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley eventually had to get involved before Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew stepped in and took Blackmon to the locker room.

It's unclear what prompted the exchange between Blackmon and Carroll, but Long also tweeted a follow-up, saying that Jaguars defensive end Jason Babin got involved and told Blackmon to "pipe down" since he's suspended for the first four games of the regular season. At that point, Backmon reportedly started to exchange words with Babin, and it was then that Bradley and Jones-Drew broke in to defuse the situation.

Blackmon has certainly had a rocky start to his NFL career. He’s got the aforementioned suspension for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He’s had two alcohol-related arrests in the past three years and has a long way to go before he fully earns the team’s trust, and incidents like this clearly don’t help his case.
