NFL roundup: Pat White released, Dwayne Allen doubtful

The Washington Redskins released Pat White, the Indianapolis Colts downgraded Dwayne Allen to doubtful and more you might have missed from a slow Saturday in the NFL.

The Washington Redskins released quarterback Pat White on Saturday. White was released so the team could sign kicker John Potter. White was the fourth quarterback on the depth chart behind Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Rex Grossman, though White could return to the team once they have the kicker situation figured out. White made his comeback to the NFL this season after sitting out multiple years.

Here’s what else you might have missed on a very news-light Saturday:

Allen downgraded to doubtful

The Indianapolis Colts downgraded tight end Dwayne Allen from questionable to doubtful on the injury report Saturday. Allen suffered a hip injury in last week's win over the Oakland Raiders, leaving the game after scoring a 20-yard touchdown. The Colts will play the Cleveland Browns in Week 2, and it would be a big surprise if Allen was active.

Arizona promotes Taylor

The Arizona Cardinals promoted wide receiver Kerry Taylor from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday. The move is likely due to the fact that star wideout Larry Fitzgerald is questionable to play in the team's Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions. The Cardinals will need another body at the position if Fitzgerald is unable to go. Fitzgerald was one of only four receivers on the active roster prior to this move.

Titans not extending Britt this season?

Wide receiver Kenny Britt is playing in his contract year, but ESPN's Paul Kuharsky believes that he won't get a new contract -- at least not with the Tennessee Titans. Britt has been disappointing throughout his career, and though he has the potential to be a great receiver, Kuharsky thinks that the Titans would be OK with another team wanting to bank on that potential, citing the high draft slots of Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter while doing so.
