Rams vs. Falcons 2013 results: Atlanta cruises to 31-24 victory

The Falcons weathered injuries for their first win of the season.

The Atlanta Falcons overcame a massive rash of injuries to dispatch the St. Louis Rams, 31-24, and pick up their first win of the season.

The Falcons opened the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown by Steven Jackson. Unfortunately, Jackson injured his thigh on the play and left the game. The Falcons extended the lead to 14-0 when Julio Jones exploded for an 81-yard catch-and-run.

Things went from bad to worse for the Rams when Sam Bradford threw a 68-yard pick-six to Osi Umenyiora. It's the longest interception touchdown for a non-defensive back in Falcons history. A field goal was the Rams' only consolation as they went into halftime down, 24-3.

St. Louis finally found the end zone in the third quarter when Bradford hooked up with Tavon Austin for the first touchdown of his career. The Rams pulled back into the game in the fourth quarter with a three-yard touchdown from Austin Pettis, but the Falcons put things away when Jason Snelling plowed into the end zone from 11 yards out. Austin got his second touchdown of the game with 2:16 left, but it was too little too late for St. Louis.

Fantasy studs and duds

Julio Jones had another huge game, racking up 11 catches for 182 yards and the touchdown. He's the clear cut No. 1 WR in Atlanta with Roddy White hobbled by an ankle sprain. Matt Ryan had a monster stat line, throwing for 374 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Jackson’s touchdown was the only thing saving his fantasy performance. He finished with zero yards on three carries and now has an injury concern.

Injury report

The Falcons were hit by a big wave of injuries. Jackson left the game with a thigh bruise and was questionable to return. Asante Samuel aggravated his thigh injury and also left the game. Sean Weatherspoon and Kroy Biermann later left the game with foot and ankle injuries, respectively.

The Rams didn’t escape the injury bug, either. Right tackle Roger Saffold was carted off with a knee injury.

Did they cover?

The Falcons entered the game as four-point favorites, so they cover with a seven-point win.
