Lions vs. Cardinals 2013 game recap: Carson Palmer leads Arizona to 25-21 win

The Cardinals got their first win of the season after a late Carson Palmer rally gave them the narrow win.

The Arizona Cardinals used a late fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Detroit Lions, 25-21, and get their first win of the season.

The first half was the Calvin Johnson show. Megatron caught all four of his targets for 96 yards in the first half, including a monstrous 72-yard catch-and-run on a slant route. The Cardinals responded with a 36-yard score from Carson Palmer to Andre Ellington, but Megatron got his second touchdown of the day on a jump ball in the corner of the end zone. The Lions went into halftime leading, 14-10.

The second half got off to a rough start for the Lions when Matthew Stafford and Reggie Bush fumbled an exchange on their first drive at their own 7-yard line. The Cardinals were unable to cash in on the turnover and had to settle for a field goal, cutting the deficit to one point. The Lions got a defensive break when Palmer threw an ugly pick-six to DeAndre Levy, but the Cardinals recovered, getting two field goals and blocking a Lions field goal attempt to bring the score to 21-19.

Arizona got a gift from Detroit in the final minutes. With the Cardinals driving, a crucial pass interference penalty in the end zone gave the Cardinals the ball at the 1-yard line. Rashard Mendenhall punched it in two plays later to give them a 25-21 lead with 2:03 left. The Lions were unable to mount a last-minute drive and will walk away disappointed at blowing the late lead.

Fantasy studs and duds

Megatron put up a clinic on Sunday, abusing Patrick Peterson and finishing with six catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Larry Fitzgerald disappointed after a big Week 1, getting just two catches for 33 yards before leaving with a hamstring injury.

Injury report

Reggie Bush briefly left the game with a knee injury, but he returned shortly afterwards sporting a brace. Larry Fitzgerald came out with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Did they cover?

The Lions were 1-point favorites entering the game and failed to cover by losing.
