Tyvon Branch injury: Raiders safety reportedly fractured fibula

The Raiders may have to start veteran Usama Young at safety with Tyvon Branch out of lineup indefinitely.

The Oakland Raiders' secondary suffered a massive blow in Sunday's win over the Jaguars. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, veteran safety Tyvon Branch suffered a "significant injury" that is believed to be a fractured fibula.

If the injury is indeed a fractured fibula, Branch could be done for the year.

Branch was injured in the first half of Sunday's game and was helped off the field by the Raiders' training staff. Following his exit, Brandian Ross and Usama Young shared playing time in Branch's absence. Young was able to collect two sacks in relief.

If Branch is out indefinitely, Young is his most likely replacement in the starting lineup. In his seventh season, Young has started 25 games for the Saints and Browns. He won a Super Bowl with New Orleans and received heavy playing time in Cleveland last season. The other possible replacement, Ross, is in his second year and has played in just 16 total games.

Branch's status will likely be updated Monday afternoon. The Raiders will travel to Denver to play the Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 3.
