Chiefs vs. Eagles 2013: Kansas City shows love for Andy Reid

Andy Reid has the Chiefs at 3-0 in his first season as head coach of the team, and players and fans have been incredibly gracious.

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs scored an emotional win Thursday night, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 26-16 in Philadelphia. Reid, coaching against his former players for the first time since being let go by the Eagles after the 2012 season, was dowsed in Gatorade after the win.

That doesn't mean that the win was easy for the Chiefs. They forced four turnovers prior to the fourth quarter and yet were only leading by seven points when Dexter McCluster muffed a kickoff to pin the Chiefs on their own 5-yard line. What followed were perhaps the most pivotal moments of the game. Joel Thorman at Arrowhead Pride has the full recap:

Right up the gut, McCoy was gone right after he hit the second level.

Chiefs 12th possession: Succop’s FG makes it 26-16, Chiefs.

Big error by Dexter McCluster, who dropped the kick forcing the Chiefs to start at their own five-yard line.

Best drive of the night from the Chiefs who took an incredible eight minutes off the clock with that drive. Starting at their own five yard line, the Chiefs drove down to the Eagles 21-yard line, enough for Succop to boot it through.

The Chiefs’ long field goal drive ended the Eagles’ growing momentum in a mistake-filled game. According to Brandon Lee Gowton at Bleeding Green Nation, the loss exposed a lot of the Eagles’ flaws -- but also highlighted the fact that the team is tired.

This is the Eagles third game in 11 days. I hate to blame everything on them being tired because there were many mistakes. The Eagles have numerous flaws and they aren’t all due to a lack of rest. I’m not making an excuse. They simply have to play better. You have to think it can’t help matters, though.

The Eagles will get a long, much-needed rest before Week 4. Unfortunately, they'll be facing a Denver Broncos team that is arguably the best in the NFL. The Chiefs will be back in Kansas City to host the New York Giants.
