For the first time since becoming the Baltimore Ravens' feature back in 2009, Ray Rice will not be suiting up for his team on Sunday, having been officially ruled inactive for the game against the Houston Texans.
Texans vs. Ravens 2013 inactives: Ray Rice unable to go Sunday
Rice will miss his first start since 2009, while safety Ed Reed will make his Texans debut against his former team.
Rice left last Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns with an injured hip. He had started 43 consecutive games, the longest active streak among NFL running backs. Bernard Pierce will make the start in his place.
In addition to Rice, the Ravens will be without wide receiver Jacoby Jones (knee), defensive lineman Chris Canty (groin), linebacker Arthur Brown (chest), defensive tackle Brandon Williams (toe), wide receiver Deonte Thompson (foot) and center Ryan Jensen (foot).
The most notable absentee for the Texans is Duane Brown, a Pro Bowl left tackle who will not make the trip to Baltimore as he attempts to overcome a case of turf toe. Ryan Harris will replace him on the line.
Safety Ed Reed will make his Texans debut, going up against the team he spent his first 11 NFL seasons with.
