Chargers short-handed against Titans due to roster mishap

Inactive lists are due 90 minutes prior to game time. San Diego accidentally listed an injured player as active, and are lacking depth because of it.

Due to a nagging groin injury, the Chargers decided to sit linebacker Donald Butler against the Titans after listing him as questionable throughout the week. However, when the team made the decision, it failed to notified the league in time, according to the CBS broadcast.

That leaves San Diego with fewer options than a normal NFL roster, and a lack of depth on defense that could become an issue.

League rules mandate that teams must turn in their inactive lists 90 minutes before the game starts. The Chargers accidentally listed Butler as active and five minutes later tried to change the list so that linebacker Tourek Williams was active instead of Butler. The league did not allow the change, however, and the Chargers have to play with a short deck.

San Diego is without several key players on Sunday, as wide receiver Malcom Floyd, linebacker Manti Te'o, cornerback Shareece Wright and tackle D.J. Fluker are also unable to play. The difference there is that they are officially inactive.

Unlike Butler.
