Giants vs. Panthers 2013: Carolina shuts down and embarrasses the New York, Eli Manning

Our SB Nation writers are sounding off on the Panthers’ blowout victory over the Giants in Week 3.

The Panthers were not kind hosts to the Giants, as Carolina shutdown and destroyed New York by the score of 38-0. Both 0-2 entering the Week 3 matchup, Carolina got their first win of the season while sending the Giants home with an embarrassing 0-3 record. Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton threw for 223 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the win along with 45 rushing yards and another touchdown as a runner, while DeAngelo Williams added another 120 yards on the ground. Giants' quarterback Eli Manning was held to 119 passing yards and an interception.

While the Panthers’ offense delivered, Edgar Salmingo Jr. of Cat Scratch Reader believes the defense should be getting a majority of the praise for the win:

The story of the day belonged to the stout, dominant front seven of the Panthers defense.

The defense, led by the "Monsterz, Inc." line, accounted for a forced fumble, 2 interceptions, and 7 sacks, with defensive end Greg Hardy leading the way with three of them. They disrupted two-time Super Bowl winner and Giants quarterback Eli Manning all day, and he could not get in rhythm. With the pressure all over him, Manning passed for only 119 yards, and one interception.

Ed Valentine of Big Blue View is not very optimistic about the Giants after this most recent loss:

The New York Giants are a bad football team right now. That's about all there is to say after the 0-3 Giants suffered a 38-0 beatdown at the hands of the previously winless Carolina Panthers (1-2) Sunday afternoon.

Going back to last season the Giants have now lost five of their last six regular-season games.Four of those have been lopsided losses, including a 34-0 shutout to the Atlanta Falcons last season.

The last time the Giants started 0-3 was 1996. They finished 6-10 that season, a year in which they were shut out twice.

The Giants are headed to Kansas City in Week 3 to take on the Chiefs, while the Panthers will be on bye week.
