Henry Melton injury update: Bears fear torn ACL for defensive tackle

The Bears may have lost their best young defender on Sunday night against the Steelers.

The Bears believe they may have lost one of their best defensive players for the season. The organization fears that Pro Bowl defensive tackle Henry Melton tore his ACL late in Sunday night’s game against the Steelers, according to Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune.

The fifth-year player injured his left knee during a pass-rush attempt in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Melton’s knee appeared to buckle as he turned to get around Steelers’ guard David DeCastro and he grimaced on the ground holding his left knee for several minutes before being transported off the field on a cart and he did not return to the game.

Melton was selected for the Pro Bowl last season and contributed five tackles in three starts this year. He was given the franchise tag by the Bears this off-season and is scheduled to be a free agent next summer. The former fourth-round pick has complied 15.5 sacks over his career.
