Josh Freeman trade rumors: Buccaneers QB wants out

Josh Freeman made it clear that he would have no problem being traded by the Buccaneers for a chance to succeed elsewhere.

Josh Freeman admitted to ESPN's Josina Anderson that he is ready and willing to be traded from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Freeman was benched by head coach Greg Schiano earlier this week when rookie Mike Glennon was named the Bucs' new starter.

For his part, Freeman said that he would have no problem moving on if necessary.

“No question,” Freeman said. “Like I said it’s uncomfortable to say. It might not sit well. It might not feel good, but the bottom line is for me as player I can’t worry about everyone else. I can’t worry about what everybody is doing. I just have to focus on the best situation for me.”

Where Freeman would land if he was traded is still unclear. So far, only one team, the Minnesota Vikings, are on record as having interest in the former first-round pick. The Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars are arguably the two neediest teams at quarterback in the NFL, but neither reportedly has any interest in acquiring Freeman. Both teams appear to be looking towards the 2014 NFL Draft to address the position.

Freeman still has roughly $15 million in base salary remaining over the last two years of his contract, and the Vikings, or anyone, may not be willing to absorb the cap hit. Technically there is still a chance that the Buccaneers hang on to Freeman as a backup if they can’t find a trade partner. That said, tensions between the Bucs and Freeman don’t appear to be easing.
