Falcons vs. Saints: Matt Ryan interception ends it

The Saints stopped the Falcons with a last-minute interception on Matt Ryan.

It seems like game between the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints always come down the last play, the bitter end. The 2013 season opener was no different. Trailing 23-17, Atlanta had the ball at the Saints three-yard line.

On third down, Matt Ryan had had Steven Jackson wide open on a crossing route in the end zone. The perfect pass hit Jackson right in the hands and bounced off. Fourth down. One last chance.

Ryan gets the snap, a low one, and the Saints defensive line brings the heat, applying the pressure the Falcons had been dealing with all day. Tony Gonzalez is the target, sitting in the end zone with a swarm of defenders around him. Ryan throws it high. Gonzo gets his hands on, but can’t make the catch. Down it goes, right into the hands of Roman Harper to end the game.

Credit rookie safety Keny Vaccaro too for getting playing Gonzo and the ball to set up the pick.
