Lions reportedly hire Bill Lazor to be offensive coordinator

New Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is tapping Bill Lazor as his offensive coordinator. Lazor was the quarterbacks coach for Nick Foles in Philadelphia.

New Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell didn't wait long to sort out his coaching staff. Caldwell will reportedly hire Bill Lazor to be his offensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Lazor was the quarterbacks coach with the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2013 season. Working under head coach Chip Kelly, he is widely credited for the emergence of Nick Foles, who enjoyed a breakout year in his second NFL season. Before the Eagles, Lazor was also the quarterbacks coach with the Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks, and served as offensive coordinator with the Virginia Cavaliers for three years before moving back to the NFL.

This is Lazor's first coordinator gig in the NFL. Considered one of the more promising names in the coaching ranks, he had an offensive coordinator interview with the Miami Dolphins before reportedly taking the Lions job. Lazor has a big opportunity to grow his resume with Matthew Stafford under his tutelage. Stafford has plenty of talent but still struggles with consistency and mechanical issues, making him an enticing project for Detroit's new coaching staff.
