Adam Gase leaning towards staying with Broncos

The Browns are hoping to interview Adam Gase after the Broncos are out of the playoffs, but does he want to coach there? Reports say he’s thinking about staying in Denver.

The Cleveland Browns might have hit another snag in their head coaching search. Sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase is thinking about staying with his current team, rather than take the Browns job.

Gase has been the presumed front-runner for the Browns, who want to interview him once the Broncos are out of the playoffs. However, some in the league believe that Gase needs more coaching experience -- he’s only 35 years old and is in his first year as a coordinator. He would also be competing with other candidates for the job.

The Browns aren’t any closer to finding a new head coach since firing Rob Chudzinski after just one year. They went hard after Josh McDaniels, who turned down the offer to stay in New England. Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine have already been interviewed, and the Browns are planning to interview Cowboys special teams coach Rich Bisaccia.

Cleveland is looking for its fourth head coach since 2009. The rapid turnover has made many candidates shy away from the position -- McDaniels’ rejection got the most publicity, but Bob Stoops and Jim Tressel have also denied interest. Between the uncertain legal status of owner Jimmy Haslam and a front office perceived as trigger-happy and dysfunctional, attractive coaching candidates have been hard to come by for the Browns.
