Dolphins rumors: Dennis Hickey impresses in GM interview

The Bucs’ director of player personnel is a surprisingly serious candidate for the position.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins may be nearing the end of their search for a new general manager, as Tampa Bay Buccaneers' director of player personnel Dennis Hickey has reportedly impressed owner Stephen Ross in the interview process, the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero is reporting.

Hickey has worked with the Bucs for nearly 20 years, and was considered a fringe candidate for the position early in the process. Tampa Bay has a general manager search of their own going on, with Hickey not reported as a candidate for that position, so it comes as a surprise that another organization would be more interested than his own.

Salguero reports that Hickey’s interview really left an impression on Ross, and that he has firmly cemented himself among the finalists for the position:

“I’m told the Hickey interview was among the longest the Dolphins have conducted during the search that has already included interviews for seven candidates. Brian Xanders had a two-day, 11-hour interview earlier this week and Hickey was not far behind him. And I’m told Hickey ‘hit one out of the park,’ with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.”

Hickey, Xanders, Ray Farmer and Lake Dawson are the most likely candidates for the position, Salguero reports.
