2014 AFC Championship Game score update: Broncos lead Patriots 13-3 at halftime

The Patriots will need another comeback to reach the Super Bowl.

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos are one half away from reaching the Super Bowl as they hold a 13-3 lead after two quarters.

The Broncos hold an advantage in the AFC Championship Game thanks to a near flawless half from Manning. He completed 18 of his 25 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown. Once Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib exited the game, Manning and the Broncos had even more success moving the ball through the air.

The Patriots put a dent in the Broncos' 10-0 lead just before halftime. Tom Brady moved the ball down field to position Stephen Gostkowski for a 47-yard field goal. However, Manning and the Broncos came right back, with the quarterback completing six straight passes to set up a Matt Prater field goal.

Denver has managed to get a decent amount of pressure on Brady. The lack of time in the pocket has forced him to mostly attempt short, quick passes, and it’s been tough to get into a rhythm.

In championship games, teams leading by 10 points or more at halftime are 37-2 all time, according to ESPN Stats and Info. The only two comebacks came in the 2006 and 2013 AFC Championship Games. Earlier this season the Patriots came from behind to beat the Broncos, so there’s plenty of time left for New England.
