Browns coaching search: Josh McDaniels’ interview will happen Saturday

Cleveland is prepared to interview McDaniels, which may have the fan base reaching for pitchforks.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Playoff Coverage

The Cleveland Browns are set to interview New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on Saturday for their head coaching vacancy, according to Adam Schefter.

McDaniels has previous head coaching experience, having been the lead man for the Denver Broncos in 2009 and 2010. In those seasons, McDaniels failed to get Denver into a playoff spot his first season despite starting 6-0, and then was fired midway through the 2010 campaign following a 3-9 start.

Naturally, this makes him a fit with the Browns, who have hired the following coaches since coming back into the league in 1999: Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, Terry Robiskie (interim), Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini, Pat Shurmur and Rob Chudzinski.

The man making the hire, general manager Mike Lombardi, will be under immense pressure to get it right after having Chudzinski -- his choice -- get fired after one year. Furthermore, Cleveland will likely be looking for a quarterback in the first round, making this maybe the most critical offseason the Browns have had in years.

The roster is not without talent, as six players got elected to the Pro Bowl including left tackle Joe Thomas, cornerback Joe Haden and wide receiver Josh Gordon.
