Jason Licht named Buccaneers general manager, per report

The Bucs have reportedly found their new GM, tabbing Jason Licht for the job. He previously worked with the Cardinals.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hiring Jason Licht to be general manager, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. The Bucs are reportedly signing him to a four-year deal with a team option for a fifth year. Glazer says he will have control over the draft and personnel decisions while working with new head coach Lovie Smith. Licht replaced Mark Dominik, who was fired after five seasons with the team.

Licht was previously the vice president of player personnel for the Arizona Cardinals. He was promoted to the position in 2013 after a year as the team's director of player personnel and a three-year stint in New England. He has a vast scouting background, working in the NFL since 1995. Licht was on staff as an executive when the Cardinals went to the Super Bowl in the 2008 playoffs. He was a finalist for the general manager job in 2012 with the Chicago Bears, who ultimately went with Phil Emery. Licht stayed with the Cardinals, who saw a major turnaround under GM Steve Keim and head coach Bruce Arians. After a 5-11 season that led to a housecleaning in the front office, the Cardinals improved to 10-6, barely missing the playoffs.

With Smith and now Licht in place, the Bucs are primed to bounce back from the dysfunctional Greg Schiano era. Despite a 4-12 season in 2013, they have a talented defense led by Darrelle Revis, Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy. On offense, Mike Glennon showed some promise in his rookie year, although it's unknown how much the new coaching will commit to him long-term.
