Browns will interview Mike Pettine for 2nd time, per report

The Cleveland Browns will bring in Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine for a second interview, according to a report.

The Cleveland Browns will interview Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine for the second time, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Cleveland is still looking to fill its head coaching vacancy, a void created when the team fired Rob Chudzinski after just one year following the completion of the regular season.

Cleveland is also reportedly considering Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. The Seahawks are set to take on the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl, so it's unclear if Quinn is interested in interviewing sooner rather than later, or if he's interested at all.

Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase was in a similar situation, but he took himself out of the running to focus on the upcoming Super Bowl. It's also possible Gase is hoping for another big year from Peyton Manning in 2014-15 to give him more options in the head coaching market next year.

The Browns are the only team without a head coach at this point. They’ve already interviewed multiple people for the job, including Ken Whisenhunt, Josh McDaniels, Mike Munchak and others. Many believe Chudzinski got a raw deal in Cleveland due to his ousting after just one season in charge.

Cleveland has a host of issues at this point, and needs a strong leader to get it on the right path. This is a team that drafted Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden in the first round of the NFL Draft. The former was traded to the Indianapolis Colts (surprisingly, for a first-round pick) and the latter was considered a desperation pick and he certainly won't be doing any new head coach favors if he's forced to start next season.

Pettine is coming off his first season as the Bills' defensive coordinator, but spent time in the same capacity with the New York Jets. He ran a 3-4 hybrid defense with the Bills this past season, and led the team to a top-10 defense overall. He also ranked highly with the Jets, leading the team to top-10 finishes overall in all four seasons as the defensive coordinator.
