The Browns plan to interview Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter for their head coaching vacancy, according to Fox Sports' Alex Marvez. Koetter has served as Atlanta's main offensive play-caller for two seasons.

Cleveland plans to extend its reach for a new head coach.
The Browns have interviewed the likes of Josh McDaniels, Todd Bowles, Mike Pettine and others, but still remain without a head coach. Both Bowles and McDaniels have dropped out of search to stay in their current coordinator positions, while Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase has declined to even be interviewed. However, Pettine is scheduled for a second interview with the Browns, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is considered a front-runner along with Pettine, but is preparing his team for the Super Bowl.
Outside of McDaniels, Koetter would be the only current NFL coordinator to be interviewed by the Browns with previous head coaching experience. Koetter served as the head coach at Boise State from 1998-2000 and Arizona State from 2001-06. He won two Big West Conference titles with Boise State and had a 66-44 record as a head coach at the college level. He was also 4-2 in bowl games.
He has been coaching for more than 30 years, but has only spent seven seasons in the NFL. He was previously the Jaguars offensive coordinator from 2007-11. Koetter also took on quarterback coaching duties in his final season in Jacksonville. After Jack Del Rio and his staff were fired, Koetter was hired by former Jaguars defensive coordinator and current Falcons head coach Mike Smith.
Under Koetter’s play-calling, the Falcons ranked eighth and 14th in 2012 and 2013, respectively. This season, the Falcons encountered an endless list of injuries on offense and defense, which makes Koetter’s unit’s ranking all that more impressive.
It is unknown when the Browns will interview Koetter or if he is considered a serious contender for the job.
