Cam Cameron draws Browns interest, will stay as LSU offensive coordinator, per report

Cameron has denied that he is a candidate for the job.

The Browns may be interested in bringing LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to Cleveland. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Browns are considering Cameron for their vacant offensive coordinator spot.

Cameron denied interest in the position when reached by NOLA.com.

“I don’t plan on going anywhere soon. I don’t want to uproot my family right now.”

LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette sent a tweet out Sunday afternoon saying he had spoken to Cameron and the coach had ensured “he’s not going anywhere and that he plans on being with [LSU football] for a long time.”

Cabot reported that former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains is also being considered for the position. Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan is another rumored candidate, according to Dawgs by Nature.

Cameron, who has 10 years of experience as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, most recently served in that capacity for five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before moving to Baton Rouge in 2013. He spent five seasons leading the offense for the San Diego Chargers from 2002 to 2006 and had a one-year stint as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2007.

The Tigers ranked seventh in the SEC in total offense and sixth in points per game in their first year under Cameron.

The Browns are in the market for a coordinator after shaking up their coaching staff with the firing of head coach Rob Chudzinski. He’s since been replaced by Mike Pettine, who’s beginning to piece together his staff.
