Sam Shields injury: Packers CB hurt in playoff game against 49ers

Green Bay can ill-afford to lose another player to injury, especially the one covering San Francisco’s top receiver.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields was injured on Sunday in the team's NFC Wild Card matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Shields appeared to injure his ankle while making a tackle on 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree and he was carted into the locker room. However, the team later announced that Shields injured his knee and is questionable to return.

A fourth-year player out of the University of Miami, Shields made 51 solo tackles, four interceptions and a team-leading 17 pass deflections this season. He teams with Tramon Williams as the starting cornerbacks for Green Bay; the team was 24th in passing yards allowed this season.

Backups Micah Hyde and Davon House will cover Crabtree in the interim. Crabtree had four catches for 70 yards on San Francisco's opening drive.
