Vikings could take their time hiring new coach

Minnesota might be looking for a new coach for a while, searching for the correct leader.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Playoff Coverage

The Minnesota Vikings fired head coach Leslie Frazier after the regular season concluded. Unlike the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers who also fired their coaches but made a quick hire, Minnesota is taking its time, per ESPN.

The Vikings have interviews lined up with Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton. Minnesota could also be waiting for one of the coaches still involved in the playoffs such as San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.

Minnesota has gone through a string of unsuccessful coaches in recent years, stretching from Frazier to Brad Childress to Mike Tice. General manager Rick Spielman says he is not going to make any rash decisions, with the team not set on any specific candidate, per the piece.

“We don’t have ‘a guy.’ I think there’s a lot of potential candidates out there,” Spielman said. “I don’t think everybody needs to panic [and say], ‘This team already hired a guy. This team already hired a guy. What are the Vikings doing?’ We are going to go through our process and do our due diligence and I think there is enough to potential candidates out there that we will be able to get the guy that we want.”

Other potential hires could be San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman and Seattle Seahawks coordinators Darrell Bevell and Dan Quinn.
