49ers-Packers earns best NFC Wild Card ratings ever

San Francisco and Green Bay put on quite a show, earning the best TV numbers of all time.

Jonathan Daniel

On Sunday night, the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers brought in the highest rating in NFL history for a wild-card contest at 27.7, with a share of 44 percent, according to Dan Bell.

The game dwarfs the meeting between the Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks from last year, which was in the same time slot. Despite featuring a bigger market in Washington D.C. and Robert Griffin III, that game only earned a 23.7 rating and 39 percent share.

When compared to some of the other television mainstays throughout the weekend, the numbers for the Packers and 49ers are even more astounding.

On Saturday night, the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints brought in a 9.8 rating with a 28 percent share for those ages 18-49, per TV by the Numbers. That night, no other show even hit a 1.0 rating, showcasing the dominance of the NFL.
